A man spear fishing off La Jolla cove (in a protected reserve area) killed a 50 year old 200-pound giant black sea bass. The giant black sea bass is an endangered species and has been nicknamed 'the gentle giant'. This particular fish was very well known by local divers and swimmers because it was so friendly. Apparently this guy speared and killed it because he was 'afraid' of it.
