apple-s

In college I had a design teacher who used to constantly say "Save Often! Save Your Life!" Every 2 mins he'd shout it out - "Save Often! Save Your life!" and we'd have to hit apple-s on our keyboards.

And I do save often. I save everything. I remember learning a lesson or two back in college that caused me to lose many hours of sleep because I had to recreate lost projects. Since that time I save every project in multiple places, on multiple drives, and at multiple stages. Every important project I've ever done in my professional life gets backed up in some way or other.

However, there's one particularly big project that I've been working on pretty consistently for the past few months. It's a fairly big project that I access on a fairly regular basis. At different times, I would often find myself looking at the tiny little folder sitting on my desktop and think 'I should really throw that on a disk.'

Do you think I ever did? Nope. And as guessed, I just experienced a mini-crisis this evening during which I realized the entire folder was deleted. Deleted. Forever. No idea how. Just gone. Missing. Forever. See ya . . . So bummed. All I heard repeated over and over in my head was "save often! save your life!" guh!

Luckily I did save some stuff and was able to recover important files from various places such as flash drives, cds, and remote servers. Some files were lost, but all in all there was no major fatal damage and things seem pretty ok. I just can't help but feel like a moron.

SAVE OFTEN! SAVE YOUR LIFE!!

It's what the other side uses to save their work.
